REACTIVITY

The functional groups of serotonin have varied stability in individual states, however in serotonin, they make no difference.

Although serotonin has hydroxyl and amino parts to it, these functional groups will not affect the reactivity of serotonin at all.

Being a neurotransmitter, serotonin is specific to only serotonin receptors. Only if the receptors (a site the neurotransmitters bind to on the receiving neuron) are part of one of the seven serotonin receptor families (5 HT1 – 5 HT7) will the serotonin molecule actually recognize and bind to it (Chundler, 2013).

OVERALL REACTIVITY: STABLE

The functional groups of serotonin do not affect the reactivity of the molecule, because it is a neurotransmitter that only responds to a certain type of molecule.
